Key Fobs and a GO giveaway!

This key fob is made of selvages

These key fobs are made for friends.  They are easy to make and you can purchase the stuff on Etsy.  They are a nice gift. The key fob above is made of faux leather and ribbon.

Joanne at Splitting Stitches is working on a giveaway for this Friday.  I wanted a chance to win one so I am blogging about it.  I have been reading about everyone blogging about it and now I want one!  Go check our her giveaway!

Remember tomorrow is Wednesday Weigh-In!  I will be blogging about everyone's progress.  Until then, have a great day.  I am taking care of Kevin and he is doing better.  Thanks to everyone who sent their well wishes!  Stephanie

Calander Cover and Update on Kevin

Calander cover made from selvages

Here is an calender cover I created for my mom. I made it last week and am just now blogging about it. It is made strictly from decorator fabric selvages.

Great news for Kevin.  His MRI shows degenerative Arthritis and bone spurs on the spine that are causing all his pain.  Fortunately no herniated disc.  This may mean long term problems but manageable with pain medications and muscle relaxants.  They finally have him on a good medication regimen that allows him to move and get around. He has off work this week and will start physical therapy next week for his back.  He is happy there is no pending surgery.  I took off work Sunday and Monday night to get him to all his appointments but back to work Tuesday for me.

Kevin has disc degeneration with osteophyte formations
(bones spurs on his spine)

It's 2 am right now and Kevin and I are both awake laying in bed, he is doing Sudoku and I am on my laptop. We were so exhausted last night, we were in bed by 7pm and fast asleep. Now we are wide awake and having trouble going back to sleep. This is my normal time to be awake but he just had too much sleep during the day yesterday on the drugs for his back. I had just a little time to sew today because he is the one who usually does all the house work, the laundry and the grocery shopping. I told him I don't like it when he gets sick because I have to do it all, LOL. I am so spoiled! He is so great to do all this while I work nights and sleep during the day. With Overtime I end up working about 5 nights a week and the 2 nights I am off work I am usually catching up on sleep. This has been going on for over a year now and he has stepped up to take on all the house chores except cooking. He cooks on the weekend but during the week I still try to cook enough on my few nights off to keep lots of leftovers around for those nights I am not home. I love to take to work homemade food. I NEVER buy food in the cafeteria at work or buy frozen meals to take to work. It is on days like this....when he is incapacitated, that I appreciate him the most!!!

Human Taco

Kevin became a human taco last night.  It was bad that he was in pain but quite comical that he had to be carried out of our house in an orange plastic sheet.  The fireman were called because I had to get him the ER and I could not carry him myself.  He could not stand and he could not walk or sit.  There was no way I was doing it myself.  The fireman said don't worry, we will carry him out of the house and then place him on a stretcher.  They showed Kevin the orange sheet and told him "it is like a taco and he is the meat"!  It worked out well but took 4 firemen to do it.

Two ambulances had to arrive to get enough man power to do the job.

Here he is finally in the ER on a stretcher.  We had to wait in the hallway for about an hour with the fireman because of no rooms in the ER and they could leave until they could get the orange plastic back board out from under him.  There was a concert called "Phish" at the Merriweather Post Pavillion going on at the same time nearby and apparently most of their ER visitors were drunk or high on acid according to the ER nurse.

This is Kevin after Dilaudid, much happier!  The CT Scan revealed a abnormal L2.  After major drugs, we finally left the ER at 2am.  He was able to walk ever so slowly with the help of lots of drugs and now we have to see a specialist at 3pm today for an MRI.  I hope the drugs they gave me to take home for him are enough to get him the doctors by myself today!  I will keep you updated as this progresses.  Thanks for everyone's support.

This is Kevin and Sarah (his daughter) with Dale....on Saturday night just before he hurt his back.  Sarah is here visiting from college and is only here for 2 weeks before she leaves for Mexico for her college course of 3 credits....a spanish immersion class.  I sure hope he gets better soon.  He is worried about missing time with her being laid up.

Little Scrap Purse

Little purse made with scraps from ends of lanyards

Below are some of the lanyards I wear to work
These lanywards are made by cutting the width of the fabric and then shortening it to fit the length I need.  These pieces on the side of the purse are the leftover ends of these lanyards.  My mom and I have been making them for the nurses at work and therefore had tons of ends.
Here is a close up of the scraps sewn onto the purse.
I bought alot of these fabrics at Hancocks of Paducah when I was there for the AQS in April.

This is the other side of my purse.
This pictures shows the size of the purse.
Side view, I used a different color button on each side

Inside my scrap purse ~ I made it colorful with lots of pockets!
It has a magnetic closure and place for credit cards and drivers license
Other interior side
Interior side ~ a hook to hang my keys

I used a heavy canvas in off white.  I thought it would go with all my scraps and because I would not have to line the purse if I used something in a heavy weight.  The bottom blue piece is a stiff peice of cardboard covered to allow it to stand upright when sat down.

Here is Dale enjoying his new shave.  I trimmed his girly tale for everyone who wants to know.  The vote was an overwhelming YES! "Trim his tail", Sooooo.....
Dale's tail is trimmed!

Wednesday Weigh-In Week 5

Welcome to Wednesday Weigh-In Week 5!

This week I lost the pound I gained last week.  I don't really know how I did it because I didn't do much walking.  I worked every night since Friday night.  Each night it has been a 12 hr shift.  My schedule consists of getting home around 8:30 am and getting to bed by 9:30 in the morning.  Waking up at 5pm and leaving for work by 6pm.  Doing that over and over again for 5 nights in a row and again tonight will make 6 in a row.  I don't usually work that much but this week I picked up two overtime shifts.  I really watched what I ate and tried to only eat what I took to work.  I have not ventured into the cafeteria to visit Subway, Einstein Bagels, Noble Romans or Baja Fresh.  I have behaved!  That must be why I lost the pound.

Dale's Tail...please vote!

This is my Golden Retriever named Dale
His coat is gorgeous!  During the summer we trim him because he likes to swim in the river behind our house daily.  Last summer, I spent a couple of hundreds dollars taking him to the groomer for a trim.  This year I decided to do it myself.  I definately did it too short and I am no pro, but it will grow and in the next few weeks it will be just like the groomer did it.  Take a look at the results.
Video of me shaving poor Dale!  Funny!

Dale's tail ~ trim or leave like this?  That is the question!

The question is: Trim his tail or leave it long?
My husband and sons think it looks funny and makes him look like a girly dog. I agree it looks funny but I love it like this. Take a look at the pics and videos below and then vote by commenting what you think I should do. I will let you know what the decision is based on your votes!

Bathroom Redecoration Project

This is my mom's new bathroom.  This is the house I grew up in and it has to be about 43 years old.  She did a great job remodeling and redecorating!  I have been talking about it because I have posted previously about making a quilt to match her wall.  I just love the bathroom and thought I would share it with everyone.  I love the colors she picked and the wainscoating adds such a cute addition.
Here is the bathroom finished.

Love the lamp she made to hang over the sink.
We painted this lamp and then added the lamp shades.  It was originally a very boring brown lamp without the shades that hung in her front entry way.  It looks shabby chic now!  How cute this is the bathroom as the light fixtures!
My mom made this adorable framed decoupage sign to display the names of her children:  me, my brother Jay and sister Amy.   It is hanging on the wall on the right side of the sink.  Below is a close up of the YoYo quilt I made my mom to hang in the bathroom.  Most of you have already seen the posts about it but thought you would like to see why I picked these colors and how it was going to be used.

Seeing how cute her bathroom turned out, it makes me want to redo mine.  Great job mom....want to redocorate my bathrooms?  :)
