Relaxing at the beach...

This is me at our condo getting ready to head out for a drive with Kevin

We decided we would drive down to Berlin Maryland and Snow Hill Maryland. These small historic towns in the South Eastern part of Ocean City are famous and only about a 45 min drive from our condo. Runaway bride was filmed in Berlin.
The 1999 movie, "Runaway Bride" starred Julia Roberts.
The image is by Paramount Pictures.

Getting dark at the beach ~ we prefer being out of the sun and going at dusk!

Me at Ocean City Maryland ~ the beach at 135th Street

As we were leaving the beach for the evening, the Ocean City Md Police were called by a couple to rescue at swimmer.  They were sitting on their balcony and looking through binoculars and noticed a young man far out in the ocean floating on a raft.  It was too far to come in due to the storm Earl who was already stirring up the waves and the under tow.  As we were leaving the beach, 3 police cars were arriving.  We could not see anything because it was getting dark.  The only way you could see him was with the binoculars.  They were in the process of calling the Coast Gaurd.  We did not stay to see him rescued because you could not see anything by this point.  It took hours for the police to leave so I am hoping he was rescued.  How lucky this young man was that someone was watching the Ocean from their balcony probably looking for ships.  Amazing!

Heading home late tomorrow because Kevin's parents arrive from WI on Thursday.  Luckily I cleaned before heading to the beach.  We are stopping off in Dagsboro Maryland to my favorite quilt shop Serendipity.  I need more Kona Cream Moda for my Dear Jane Quilt.  Here is one I got done at the beach:

Lunch with Pat and her husband

My husband Kevin, me, Pat and her husband Gary
Lunch at the Big Fish Grill in Rehobeth Beach Delaware

My husband and I are spending time at our family condo at the beach.  It is really hot down here, 96 degrees!  I just heard on the news that today was the 56th day with the heat over 95 degrees.  We prefer to come down to the our condo in Ocean City Maryland in the spring and the Fall.  We rent it out all summer to the same renters year after year and so this is our first time since the springtime.

Today we planned to meet up with Pat from A Little of This and a Little of Pat and her husband.  I met her once before, just us girls.  She brought along her friend Kathy and I brought my mom and after lunch that time we went to a quilt shop.  This time it was time for the husbands to meet.  It was great.  The boys had lots to talk about.

We are back at our condo now and this is our view from our patio...8th floor view.  Luckily we can see between the condos built in front of our view.  The bayside is a great view too.

Looking forward to Kevin's parents flying in from WI on Thursday.

Quilted Shower Curtain

This is a quilt turned into a shower curtain

I bought this inexpensive bright green quilt from Home Goods.  I bought a queen sized quilt, trimmed it to fit the shower stall, put a binding on it to coordinate with the room and button holes and that is it!  It goes perfectly with the yoyo quilt I made earlier this summer.  I made this shower curtain and the yoyo quilt (previously blogged about here) for my mom's bathroom.  Her walls a light blue but the yoyo quilt has this same green as seen below.

Well today is a beautiful day at the beach.  We arrived here at our condo in Ocean City Maryland for some rest before Kevin's parents come for a visit from Wisconsin on Thursday.  They will be here until Sunday and it will be great to see them.  Our plans were to visit them but his Dad loves our Golden Retriever Dale so much that he wanted to come here just to see our dog!  (He doesn't know I know this.)  He calls our dog Duke!

Meeting shortly with Pat from A Little of This and a Little of Pat for lunch!  Meeting her husband too!  Yippie!!

Dale meets new puppy

Here is Sam.  He is 10 weeks old and my sister and her family adopted him from the Animal Shelter last week.  He is part Lab and part Sharpei.  We waited a week to go over because Sam was fixed and had stitches and was not supposed to get too excited.  Now he is healed and today we went over for a visit and let the dogs meet for their first time.  They will be visiting each other regularly because we don't live far from each other.
Dale meets Sam.  When Sam first saw Dale he barked.
Check out the video below when Sam won't stop barking at Dale.

This is me with Dale our Golden.  Puppy Sam is playing on his back.

Sam is not too sure if he should come out from the flowers and meet Dale!

Dale and Sam get a little closer

Hope you enjoyed my pics of the new puppy in my sister's family.

Tomorrow Kevin and I are headed to our condo at the beach.  That is Ocean City Maryland.  We will stay till the middle of the week and get back home in time for Kevin's parents who fly in from Milwaukee WI on Thursday.  They are staying for a 4 day visit.  We have 2 weeks of vacation which started today.  Kevin and I have plans to meet Pat from "A Little of This and a Little of Pat" and her husband for lunch on Monday.  This will the second time getting together with Pat.  I am looking forward to meeting her, it should be fun.

Tell me about your family (married, kids, pets)

I'm married to TJ, we have a 9 year old son I like to call E. We have 4 aquatic turtles.

Where did you grow up and where do live now?

I grew up in Lincolnton, NC and currently live in between Boone & Wilkesboro, NC. We live on top of a mountain and have a great view.

How long have you been blogging and what made you decide to do it?

I've been blogging since 2007, but really got into blogging in 2008 when I was layed off from a full time position in Corporate Accounting. I've met so many great blogging friends from all over. I wanted to blog in the hopes that someone else would see my work and like it as much as I do. I still hope blogging will lead to some other small opportunity's.

What is your crafty talent?

Sewing would be my crafty talent. Although, I have a huge collection of Capri Sun Juice items I sell on Ebay & Etsy. Talk about going green.

When did you start doing your craft?

How I got started sewing............I've always wanted a sewing machine for as long as I can remember. In 2005 I asked my in-laws for a sewing machine for Christmas. I got it, and so much more. I got everything I needed to start sewing and man did I start!  I wanted to start 5 different things and not finish anything. Every time I got a new pattern or kit, I wanted to start it. No matter where I was on the current project. It didn't even matter that I had to change thread, make new bobbins and cut new patterns. I wanted to see if I could make a go of sewing. Even though it's a huge hobby for me, I wanted my quilts and items to be present worthy. I say present, because I give most of my stuff away for gifts. I've even donated a few quilts for auctions or raffles.

Much has changed since 2005 and those first days and months of sewing. I now will finish a project before starting something new. Well, not exactly. I had boxes and boxes of un-finished projects in my closet. I was laid off from my accounting job in June of (2008). I had tons of free time on my hands and thought I would get all that un-finished stuff out and complete it all. I would like for you all to know, it's all complete.

I am a self/book taught sewer/quilter. I've never taken a sewing or quilting class. No one in my family sews or quilts. I don't even know anyone that sews or quilts. So, there's no one to help me, when I get stumped. That's when I turn to the internet. I know I'll eventually find what I'm looking for out there. With that said, I have no idea where I got my love for sewing and quilting. It is a passion!!

Tell us a little about your weight changes and why you joined the WWI group.

uggghhh......this could be awhile..I really thought joining WWI and seeing everyone progress would help me to loose. NOT......i'm still hanging in there, I haven't fully given up, but I do find it hard to let you know every week that I "still" haven't lost a thing. Other than those first 6 lbs. Not to blame my health, but it is horrible and so, so hard for me to loose weight. I'm here though, still hanging, if only by a small tattered thread.

Tell us your favorite, daily blog reads.

I have so, so many. I'm not sure I could pick a few favorites.

Tell us anything else you would like to share!

You can "like" my facebook page for my sewing things

~~Tonya, thanks for sharing yourself with us!  I love getting to know each of you just a little bit better!

Triangle # 8

Triange # 10
This star was originally made for a Dear Jane square but it did not work so I decided to not to let it go to waste and use it for one of my triangles.  I think it will be unique.

This totals 59 blocks
and 10 triangles
A total of 1132 Peices so far!!!

I had a great relaxed weekend after taking Jimmy to WVU.  Yesterday I found out I won Mark Lipinski's Giveaway, a quilting book called Polka Dot Christmas.  See the post yesterday for more information!  Have a great week!  This video will keep you smiling this week....
